I quite enjoyed today's ASWA meeting, it was great to see some new faces, as well as new photos. I also must commend John Woodbridge who put a lot of time and effort into his fantastic model presentation, that explained very well how models work, the limitations of models, how to use and understand models as well as doing a very interesting and informative comparison on how model runs forecasted the recent ECL in the Tasman Sea yesterday, and how well they went. The other thing that impressed me, was that nearly half the people that turned up had to travel 1-3hrs to get here! It really is great to see people travelling, hopefully people will continue to show their support, and Brisbane people will also try and make an effort to also attend, and show their support and be involved! We also had access to a data projector (many thanks to Simon Turton!) This was fantastic, and enabled us to do powerpoint presentations, and also project video footage onto a board rather then using a TV. Simon has informed me that he will be happy to supply this whenever he attends - it will certainly be an invaluable tool! On the admin side, only two nominations for QLD state reps were received. They were James Chambers, and Anthony Cornelius (myself). Because of this, both nominees are automatically instated/re-instated as QLD state reps. Both James and myself thank everyone for their support, and hope that everyone is happy with this decision. The next election will occur in approximately one year from now (in 2001). -- Anthony Cornelius Queensland Coordinator of the Australian Severe Weather Association (ASWA) (07) 3390 4812 14 Kinsella St Belmont, Brisbane QLD, 4153 Please report severe thunderstorms on our Queensland severe thunderstorm reporting line on (07) 3390 4218 or by going to our homepage at http://www.severeweather.asn.au +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ Date: Sun, 02 Jul 2000 01:26:30 +0800 From: Mark Dwyer X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.72 [en] (Win98; I) X-Accept-Language: en To: "aussie-weather at world.std.com" Subject: aus-wx: Possible Freo Tornado / Perth Rainfall totals Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Yeah Ben there have been some nice falls over night, got 40 mm here till 9 am saturday morning at my place. These articles are designed to get the adrenaline flowing again for all of you who have either hibernated or gone off and found something else to do over late autumn - early winter. ****IT'S TIME YOU CAME BACK!!!!!!**** Small groups are already putting their heads together and beginning to communally salivate over the possibilities this spring, TDU2K and post Christmas chasing (who'd want to go shopping when we could be chasing cbcbs?) Now is the time to get the car serviced (can't be too prepared), get your chase bag packed and in the car, buy the CB radio you didn't have last year, and a road directory for your state (and the one's on either side of it) and start seriously watching the weather to see what the setup is going to be like (I reckon we'll have a pretty fair idea by the 1st week in August) - we need a couple of cold outbreaks to get in practice, and we'll be ready for spring...hey Paul in Darwin - are you ready for "The Buildup" yet ?????????? The first article in this series is Tim Marshall's "A Passion for Prediction" as published in Weatherwise in 1993. It can be found at http://www.storm-track.com/oldpubs/passion.htm Don't forget to read "Excepts from a Stormchasers journal" by our new Victorian ASWA member (vkx362) - remember what it was like?? http://www.rubix.net.au/~cadence/journal0628.htm Keep checking back to the What's New page for more entertaining and thought provoking articles to whet your appetite. A new logo for MSC has replaced the 'dinosaur' that has held the front page together for the last year. Many thanks to Lindsay & Ed for organising the new millenium for MSC!! Enjoy!! For example: + Most snow ever fallen + Most consecutive days where snow has fallen + Longest time snow has stayed on the ground + Coldest temperatures + Has "snow" (not including sleet) ever actually fallen in Springwood? Does anyone know any records or know where I may find such snow fall records for the Upper Blue Mountains? Is the Blue Mountains the area which receives the most snow in NSW outside the Snowy Mountains?
