My partner and I will be in Oberon from next Monday through to Friday, staying at a lovely Farmstay place, so here's hoping something develops. If I am correct, the highs were somewhat northward around the 29th and 30th of June, which still gave us two consecutive snowfalls of 2-3 cm and 3-4cm as there was quite a bit of moisture about even though it wasn't that cold, say zero to one during the falls. Although, I think Jimmy and I felt very cold at the lookouts near my place because of the windchill. Jimmy has my private home number if folk are chasing next week or the weather develops into something good, I won't have reliable net access next week but will check my answering service remotely, from Oberon. We also have a friend staying at our house whilst we are away, so folk can leave the odd message via her, if need be. Make sense? I was out to Leopold by train from Geelong a few times when I was a kid in the Summer of 1949-50 and again by motorbike a couple of times around Christmas 1964 and both times got treated to some of the most impressive lightning displays I ever saw. I don't know whether I just fluked it but I started to wonder whether it had some sort of "thunderstorm-drawing magnetism" about the place. I guess all those wide green paddocks might be covered by houses by now so you wouldn't get quite as good a view now as I used to get then. Here in HK, we are surrounded by high-rise buildings - rotten for watching thunderstorms. There is also a decent thermal trough ahead of the system and this should genberate some storm activity. Should be an interesting situation if it unfolds. The most important ingredient now is the moisture potential.
