Just a reminder to everyone about our next QLD ASWA Meeting on Saturday the 21st of October commencing at 10am! The location will be the same as the last: Interim Technology Corporate Education Level 4, 200 Creek Street (right next to the Novatel) We have a guest speaker who will be talking - Dr Bruce Harper Systems Engineering Australia (SEA). "Ocean Hazard Responses to Tropical Cyclones" Bruce will provide some background to the present study he is involved in with the Bureau of Meteorology which is developing a new storm surge prediction model and also provide an overview of tropical cyclone climatology in Queensland. During the late 1980s Bruce was Chief Ocean Engineer with Woodside Offshore Petroleum based in Perth and also has some videos to show of the effects of tropical cyclones on the North West Shelf off Dampier (Ilona 90hPa, Orson 905hPa). (For those who attended the February meeting earlier this year, this will be the second half of Dr Harper's talk). We'll also show some recent thunderstorm and weather footage, and present synoptic and satellite analysises of the main events from the past 6 weeks. It should be a great and informative meeting! If you have any new photos or video footage, please bring it along! If you've never been to an ASWA meeting before and have photos or footage, please bring them along! Also please bring $3.50 for pizza & drinks. To recap on all the details: Location: Interim Technology Corporate Education Level 4, 200 Creek Street (right next to the Novatel) Phone: 07 3004 3611 Date: Saturday, 21st of October. Time: 10am Guest Speaker: Dr Bruce Harper (System Engineers Australia), "Ocean Hazard Responses to Tropical Cyclones" The following maps may be interesting to people for directions: http://www.bsch.simplenet.com/anthony/ASWA/ASWAMeetingMap.jpg http://www.bsch.simplenet.com/anthony/ASWA/BuildingPosition.jpg http://www.bsch.simplenet.com/anthony/ASWA/Carpark.jpg http://www.bsch.simplenet.com/anthony/ASWA/ParkingMap.jpg The venue is very close to Central Train Station - the feedback from the last meeting at this venue was that people could see the venue as soon as they walked out from the train station. So if you would like to train instead of car, it's very convenient! If people could please email me to their attendance/apologies so that we have an idea on how many people are coming, that'd be much appreciated! This year has been very active storm wise, I have heard thunder (a rumble e.g. one) with the passage of most cold fronts lately. Look forward to catching up with you. Hey all

Looks like Kununurra is / was getting a nice storm in the last hour.....
Kununurra Airport 10 14:54 27.3C 19.6C DP 63% RH SE 50km/h 27kn G78km/h G42kn 1007.3hPa 0.0m
Kununurra Airport 10 15:30 26.7C 22.4C DP 77% RH SSW 18km/h 10kn G26km/h G14kn 1007.4hPa 0.2mm
The max there was 38C today so it has cooled off quite rapidly!
Not much is showing up on Halls creek radar around Kununurra though :\ my guess is it's out of radar range......although it could be a LP storm...

Here in Karratha its been quite pleasant with a max of 33.6C today at 11:39am with the seabreeze in just before midday, making for a very nice afternoon with the temperature around 30C by 3pm :)

Currently at 3:45pm its 29/16 45% RH with a light N/NE wind 1009hPa
