They are still working on it. Have taken they kids up a couple of times to watch the water come over the spillway (and missed it), and boy have they put some dirt in front of it. About 100 metres or so thick in front of the wall, last time I was up there it was about half the height of the wall. Not sure if they are going to go full height or not. The dam was 99.1% full on Friday I think it was. The Murray in Corowa was lapping at the banks on Saturday night, and from what I can gather they were going to increase the output last Friday. If this system does drop some heavy rain then they'll probably have to increase it again. Currently it has started spitting on and off since 5.30 this morning is 16.6 and humidity at 89% at present. Quite heavy at times. Tad over 18 degrees at present with the wind gusting at about 20kmh from the NE, barometer sitting on 1016 at present. The Murray river at Corowa has risen quite a bit since Saturday night and has now broken its banks again, predicted to reach 5.9 metres I read somewhere. May go further than that if this falls upstream of the Hume dam which is currently at full capacity. Hi Everyone,
Just a reminder that the documentary on storm spotting starts on the ABC this Wednesday night.  Called "The Eye of the Storm" it focusses on storm chasing in the north of Australia.  Though, the picture shown in the Sydney Morning Herald Guide was of the famous 1994 storm near Orange taken by Rose Toomer, that appears on the BoM posters.
Does anyone know the director of this documentary?  Is he a member of ASWA??  It would be a real pitty if he weren't as this would be excellent publicity for us.  In fact, the ABC have taken to having online forums following many of their documentaries and it would not surprise me if they do for this one also.  So keep an eye out as this will be an excellent opportunity to gain more members for our club.
Cheers,
           Paul Graham.

Mario bought this docco on video's at the ABC shop, and we watched it at the video night. DO NOT bother watching this docco for storms. There is hardly anything in it, and the stuff they do show is in the "Monsoon" episode where they show a bit of time lapse lightning and thats it !
I thought it was PATHETIC to name the series  "EYE OF THE STORM" When it is clearly more focused on the Australian climate (drought/flood/fire), and even more so on native animals around the place !!!

Ok enough from me

Thanks Blair for your input into this matter. I must admit I hadn't done any research (obviously) into the historical rain data for the 2 stations, and had no idea that the mean totals for the airport and town are so similar. I was really basing my observations on my past 3 years of living here, where (except for the recent rain here) the airport seemed to get much higher totals than town gauges and my own gauge. This can be quite frustrating in such a dry part of Australia. I just assumed this is the norm, but obviously things balance up over time. Can someone tell me if Docker River, a community on the W.A./N.T border, about 200 kms North of Giles, has had abnormally high rainfall figures for the past few years? When there is any rain event in the interior regions, this community seems to get good totals every time. People who travel there regularly have told me that the creek there is running most of the time, and the grass is green. There is a low range around the location which may encourage rain in the area, and in the past few years the rainfall figures have caught my eye quite often.
